PROJECT.30 - DAY 20

The Day I Chased WiFi Across Kampala

All Photos shot on Nothing Phone 3

Today is about a short story. And I decided to run my day.

It was a Digitribe work out of office day at Kardamom and Koffee. The showers started early. That heavy Kampala rain that makes you rethink every decision.

But I had things to fix.

First Stop: Airtel

I decided to go get my Airtel sim cards fixed. Because nothing about telecom providers in this city ever works the first time. Or the second. Or the third.

After that, I went to National Theatre. Checked out the World Theatre activities. Took a moment. Absorbed something cultural before the chaos of deadlines kicked back in.

Then I ran to Kardamom.

Found No WiFi

That’s when I realized I’d been postponing something essential: getting a router.

You can’t keep relying on cafe WiFi when you’re trying to work professionally. You can’t keep scrambling. You can’t keep building a career on borrowed internet and prayer.

So I went back to Airtel. They were trash. Service slow. Attitude worse. Energy wrong.

I opted for MTN instead. It was good. Fast. Functional. Done.

Back to Kardamom

Went back to Kardamom and worked. Met the team. Ate pasta because creativity requires fuel and pasta is honest carbs.

Right now I’m home writing this blog and editing.

What Day 20 Actually Taught Me

This day wasn’t glamorous. There was no shoot. No dramatic moment. No client meeting that changed everything.

Just logistics.

Fixing sim cards. Chasing WiFi. Running between Airtel and MTN because one provider failed and you needed a backup immediately. Buying a router you should have bought weeks ago. Eating pasta at a cafe while your laptop struggles to stay charged.

But here’s what matters: I kept moving.

I didn’t let the rain stop me. I didn’t let bad service spiral into a lost day. I didn’t wait for perfect conditions. I adapted. I pivoted. I solved the problem and kept working.

That’s the unsexy truth about creative work. Most days aren’t portfolio highlights. Most days are problem solving in real time so you can get back to the actual work.

You don’t always need inspiration. Sometimes you just need WiFi and a functional sim card.

Day 20: done.
